Exhausted Isn’t Normal: Why You Can’t Switch Off... and the Surprising Fix

Most of us have accepted exhaustion as part of life. We joke about needing another coffee, staying up late to “get it all done,” or catching up on sleep on the weekend.


But the truth is, being constantly tired isn’t normal. And it’s costing us more than we realise.


In our latest episode of The Brain Changers Podcast, I spoke with Sabine Christelli, a holistic sleep scientist who blends neuroscience, breathwork, Yoga, and hypnosis into practical tools for better rest.


Sabine calls sleep “an infinite goldmine,” and after listening to her, I couldn’t agree more.


Sleep is the foundation that allows everything else to function, from our focus at work to our patience with loved ones.


The hidden cost of poor sleep

Sabine reminded me that when sleep is disrupted, we don’t just feel tired. We lose creativity, clarity, and even our ability to feel joy. It affects how we eat, how we relate, and how we make decisions. Over time, lack of sleep can contribute to health issues that go far beyond fatigue.


Why micro-habits matter

The good news is that change doesn’t require overhauling your entire life. Sabine shared that even a few minutes of breathwork before bed, dimming the lights in the evening, or avoiding that late-night email can calm the nervous system and create the conditions for deeper sleep.


As she put it, “Just making the decision to do something different brings relief. Your body feels the weight lift straight away.”

Becoming your own researcher

What I loved most was Sabine’s encouragement to become our own researcher. Notice what helps. Experiment. Keep a simple sleep diary if needed. The more curious and intentional we are, the more empowered we feel to create real change.
